At EHMA, we are committed to making our conference as sustainable as possible. We recognise that events like ours can have a significant environmental impact, and we are taking steps to reduce our carbon footprint and promote sustainable practices.
We have implemented a range of initiatives to reduce waste, conserve resources, and minimise our environmental impact.
- We have selected a catering that sources local and seasonal products, and provides meals that are limited in red meat and prioritise vegetarian options. We believe that serving sustainably-sourced food is an important part of our commitment to sustainability, and we hope that you will enjoy the delicious and healthy meals provided at the conference. Our catering also provides reusable materials and is committed to limit food waste by donating leftovers to a local food bank.
- We are doing our best to reduce printing. Abstract submissions, registrations and invoicing are entirely web-based, and we have reduced to the minimum printouts of other materials.
- We are committed to reducing waste and promoting sustainable practices. We have selected recycled or recyclable materials for our conference goodie bags, and we pay close attention to recycling practices during and after the conference.
- We collaborate with local organisations and businesses that are engaged to contribute to social reintegration in the labour market of people from vulnerable groups.
- We take action to make the Conference accessible and inclusive to everyone. We provide a space for new parents to change or breastfeed their children. Additionally, upon request, we offer phonological loop to assist delegates.
We encourage delegates to do their part in reducing their carbon footprint while at the conference. Here are a few tips and recommendations:
- Turn off lights and electronics when you leave your hotel room.
- Bring a reusable water bottle and fill it up at the water stations.
- Use the recycling bins available in the conference venue and respect the rules for sorting waste.
- Use public transport. Consider taking a train, bus, or tram to the conference venue, rather than a taxi.
- If you are staying in a hotel near the conference venue, consider walking to the conference.
- If you want to use a taxi to get from the airport to the conference, consider carpooling with other delegates. Our Conference app has a section where you can find delegates that want to share a taxi.
- Choose an eco-friendly accommodation. Look for hotels that have implemented sustainable practices, such as using energy-efficient lighting and appliances, providing recycling bins, and using eco-friendly cleaning products.
- Offset your carbon emissions. If you travel by plane, consider offsetting your carbon emissions by donating to a reputable carbon offsetting organisation. These organisations invest in projects that reduce carbon emissions, such as renewable energy and reforestation projects.
By taking these simple steps, we can work together to reduce the environmental impact of EHMA 2025 and create a more sustainable future for all. Thank you for your commitment to sustainability and making our conference a sustainable event.
