Pre-conference – Net-zero healthcare
The net-zero healthcare field experience

The net-zero healthcare field experience is a focused, practice-based learning session designed to complement the European Health Management Conference programme. The activity combines an experiential Carbon Emissions Learning Lab (CELL) session with an site visit to a green hospital, offering participants a concise but high-impact exposure to applied sustainability leadership in healthcare.
The session integrates the CELL methodology, developed by the Geneva Sustainability Centre, as a decision-support and leadership learning environment that helps healthcare managers explore the interdependencies between emissions, operational choices, and system performance. This is complemented by a guided visit to the Hospital Universitari de Mollet, where participants will observe how planetary health and decarbonisation strategies are implemented in real hospital settings.
The course is delivered by the Planetary Health Development Centre (CDSP), a joint initiative of the Fundació Sanitària Mollet, an integrated healthcare ecosystem internationally recognised for its leadership in environmental sustainability, and the ISGlobal – Barcelona Institute for Global Health, a leading international research centre in global and planetary health. The activity is delivered under the formal collaboration agreement with the Geneva Sustainability Centre.
The course aims to:
- Introduce the CELL methodology as a leadership-oriented learning tool for navigating net-zero healthcare transitions.
- Strengthen understanding of key decision levers for hospital decarbonisation.
- Provide direct exposure to a green hospital model integrating governance, infrastructure, and service design.
Target group
The activity is aimed at health managers and hospital leaders interested in implementing sustainability and net-zero strategies in healthcare organisations. It is particularly relevant for professionals responsible for hospital operations, sustainability initiatives, or strategic transformation in health systems.
Expected outcomes
By the end of the session, participants will:
- Have experienced the CELL approach to emissions-informed decision-making.
- Better understand how sustainability objectives can be embedded into hospital management and operations.
- Have observed a real-world green hospital case aligned with planetary health principles.
Fees
- The fee for EHMA Members is €225 (+VAT).
- The fee for non-EHMA Members is €275 (+VAT).
Accreditation
Participants will receive GSC accreditation for the CELL session, in line with the collaboration framework between the CDSP and the Geneva Sustainability Centre.
